My 99 Tahoe has the push-button four wheel drive system. When the Auto 4wd mode is selected, according to the manual, 4wd should kick in only when the car senses traction loss.

However, no matter the conditions, when pulling into a parking space on pavement (not a condition that should cause 4wd to kick in) or otherwise making slow sharp turns, the Tahoe starts to buck just as if it was in four wheel drive-hi. Any thoughts on why the 4wd is kicking in without any loss of traction? I have 35" tires and a 5" lift.

Thanks!

I would venture to guess that at low speed and tight turns and large diameter tires you inside wheels my be going to slow to be recognized properly given the impression of slip on the outer tire.

You could leave it in 2hi mode.

^- What he said. And why the hell would you put it in auto mode? Be a man and learn to discern whether or not you need 4wd on, otherwise run in 2wd hi. ;)

Edit: That might have come out sounding like a dick thing to say. Like slc said, it just thinks that the tires are slipping when you're turning due to the different wheel speeds, so it's engaging 4wd.
