Hello all, new to the forum. I bought a 97 Yukon about 3 weeks ago and I noticed that the 4WD switch acts funny at times and will not respond. I cant quite isolate it but I am wondering if it has something to do with heat. When I run the truck, most of the time 2HI is lit but every now and then, it is lit so dimly that I have to cup the switch with my hand to even see it. When I hit 4HI to test it out, the 2HI light goes off but then comes right back on (still dim) after I depress the 4HI switch. I can find all sorts of information on blinking lights but I haven't been able to find info on a dim/unresponsive switch. When the switch works normally though, it seems to engage just fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
_IHOD

its probally just bad bulbs in the switch or a short in the bulbs , now when you said you press 4 hi and the 2wd light goes off and back on can you feel the truck lock into 4wd?

Hey thanks for the reply.

Nothing happens when I hit 4HI besides the 2HI light going out while its pressed, the only time it responds is when its at full brightness. Funny thing though, if I give the switch a hard tap, the light brightens up again and all is well. I am thinking that something is loose.

well before you buy the switch see if you got power to the switch using a voltmeter
