Day dreaming at work. Is it possible to swap a 5.3 for a 6.0 or 6.2 in an 09 z71? If so what is the most efficient swap? Crate LS3 or L92? Or just swap blocks and use the existing intake, harness and ecu with a custom tune? Is this even possible with the 6spd transmission and 2spd transfer case? I thought that I had read it wasn't which is why the ltz only offers the bigger motor in 2wd and the denali in awd. Thanks.

im wondering the same myself. i would love to have the 6.2 in mine, but im sure the swap for the tranny, transfer case, and engine would be too much labor cost and not worth it, but maybe one day

Do the Tahoes use the same 6L80 transmission that is in the Silverado? If so would this not stand up to the torque from a 6 liter?

I wanna do this too. My dad took the 6.0L from his 08 Denali and put it (and the transmission/wiring/complete interior) inside a 1996 Ford Bronco, when it would have swapped to my truck much easier!

those 5.3 engines are literally ROCK SOLID....200k miles is not uncommon....why not just spend a few grand and supercharge it in a weekend and have more power and better economy.

there is a reason by all performance related motors are blown, because it is much more efficient and much lighter than bigger blocks....and for the most part, you get power on demand, but generally retain efficiency under normal use.

plus super-chargers SOUND GREAT.....

Would a supercharged 5.3 help with the low end torque or just high end horsepower?

We were going to put a 6.2L in the SSS, but wound up just swapping the heads and selling the engine to a friend. He put the engine in his 03 Silverado. It is fairly easy to swap a 6.2L in to the 09.

A supercharger on a 5.3L will help you off the line, couple a cam with it, and you are looking at some serious power. I would not recommend an 80e, just beef up the 60e. The 80 has different shifts and will cause for less power on the low end.

Yes, I am referring to the 4L80e, your stocker is a 4L60e.

Yep, you have the 6L80e. The other six speed is the 6L90e, which is only found in the heavy duty trucks, CTS-V, and ZR1.
