Looking at a high mileage 5.3L At about 1500 rpm idle, there was a slight/low volume upper engine rattle. Not like a single lifter, it was a faster rate then one or two and not that pronounced.

I seem to recall a TSB or at least some rumors about it, from way back, on this, but cant dig anything up. Thoughts?

Thanks,

Idles high, cause I leaned on the throttle to idle it up to listed for noise. idle speed is normal.

No worries, I may not have been clear on that part. idle is fine, just interested on the faint rattle at higher engine idle speed

Thanks for the input. I passed on this one at this point. Too many unknowns that could consume a great deal of my time on the back end of the deal.

I feel its worth spending a little more on the front end on one that has a better chance of less time put in on the back end. I only have a couple months of time and available space to get a project truck road worthy, before I get busy and fill up my shop space.
