Looks like I need to replace the engine in my '95 Tahoe (5.7 TBI). All the shops near me suggest putting either a rebuilt or crate 5.7 TBI back in it. Any suggestions? Who has a '95 that has been in my shoes recently?

What's your budget, lol.

GM crate engines look competitively priced and offer a nice warranty (3y/100,000?)

The previous owner put a Jasper reman in my 98 a little over three years ago. It has about 40k on it and I have small oil leaks at the rear main and front crank seals. Seems like it should've held up longer than that.

What's wrong with yours?

check the wrecking yards , just make sure it has a compression test done . how ever you really never know the running condition till its in your truck . crate engines good if it comes with the warranty tho . just depends on what your able to spend budget wise

Is your engine rebuildable? Crate engine would be the best bet if you have the cash, buying a "off the shelf" rebuild can be sketchy as you don't know whats replaced or left in used. If you can find a rebuild shop that will let you keep an eye on the build and show you the used parts he is replacing, I would go with that.
