Hello All.....Been awhile since I was here last. I previously had a 2003 GMC Yukon that I put almost 200k miles on before selling. I traded that truck for a '12 Ford Focus, and have been missing the space and capability of my Yukon (although the 32mpg has been nice).

So, I'm back and looking for another truck. I went to the local dealership and sat in some trucks to get a feel for the new interior and and chassis. I really like the interior and exterior look of the Z71 models. The silver trim is MUCH more stylish than the wood grain, and the improved wheel/tire package is nice as well.

I am somewhat perplexed though, as I've seen a few suburbans with the 6.0L on Autotrader, but none with the Z71 package. After loading up my previous Yukon a few times, I felt I would like the power of the 6.0L when fully loaded. The 5.3 never did my bad in my old truck, but there were a few times towing where some more torque would have been nice. I also can't seem to price/option a 6.0L in the Z71 package on Chevy's website.

Is this an impossible combination, the 6.0L and Z71? If so, I'm wondering if it would be better to get a NNBS that is a "base" model, and swap in/on the wheels/tires, 6.0L, and the interior bits that I want. I would rather just purchase what I want, but if GM doesn't offer it, then I'm not opposed to modifying to fit my needs.

Any thoughts from the resident guru's?!?!

Are you talking about trucks or suvs?

For the trucks, to get the 6.0 in 04-07 you need the max trailering package, or vmax/ss. 4wd is a seperate option for the max trailing. For 07 up its the same thing except in the 2012 models it is the 6.2 and the 6.0 is gone. Also I think they are only available in extended or crew cabs.

I'm probably not the right person to answer, but since I'm in the market for a NNBS Tahoe and have been searching and researching.. From what I can tell, the 6.0/6.2 is only available on the LTZ and you cannot get an LTZ w/Z71.

I'm sure someone will quickly correct me if I'm wrong.

edit: My reply is for the Tahoe only, not trucks. I think that is what the OP was asking about.

I was referring to the SUV's. However the idea of a pickup isn't out the question either.

Prior to the 13 model ( as quit looking when I bought an 21)
GM only did the 6.0 in the tahoe in 2009, and even then it was very limited.

There is 1 member on here that recently ( last year or so) has purchased a Z71 tahoe with the 6.0

Unless they are making needed changes to the power department...good luck.

I recall in 2009 you could order a Z71 with the 6.2L V8 but only in 2WD. Hopefully someone will chime in to confirm.

Edit: I only found 2009 LTZs with the 6.2L.

Thanks to all for the info.

Any thoughts on if the 5.3 is enough of an engine in a fully loaded Suburban in the NNBS trucks? If the 6.2L is worth the extra cashola, then I don't mind swapping the interior bits, and wheel/tire package out to get the look/feel I want. It's obviously much more difficult to swap an engine/trans combo than some interior bits.

How does the 6.2L do on fuel as compared to the 5.3? Is it still the same scenario as the comparison between the 5.3 and the 6.0 in the NBS trucks?

I'm guessing finding a 2009 LTZ with a 6.2 will be close to impossible, as well.

Yea they only did 6.2 on tahoe's for one year and I know LTZ's had em but not sure if they ever had it in Z71 but I could be wrong. I've owned a 5.3 08 tahoe and now have a 5.3 07 avy and 6.2 07 esky. World of difference. The gas is too though. I do know when they switched to the 6 speed transmission the gas mileage did improve but it's still a lot worse then the 5.3's mileage.
