Got to replace a waterpump on a 2005 6.0 thats in a Suburban. I see 2 types of thermostat listed when I look up parts, a one piece thermostat and housing unit and theres also just the regular thermostat by itself. Short of pulling off the current housing, is there any way to tell which type I need to order?

When I replaced the water pump on my 2006 Denali with a 6.0, it was easier to just replace the t-stat in the housing, rather than dissemble the housing to take the t-stat out, and put it back together. And I believe the part was the same price.

OK I see what youre saying. I was thinking there may be two different types of thermostat housings on a 6.0 waterpump, the kind with built in thermostat and another type like on an old 350 with a seperate thermostat. Didnt want to order just the thermostat if I needed a complete assembly or vice versa. Thanks

Well got the pump switched out today. Thought Id post a pic of what I found inside. Thermostat and housing from my 6.0 on right, and on the left for comparison a one piece unit from a 5.3 pump I replaced couple months ago

Don't know about your '05 but on my '04 there were different water pumps used. Depends on the pump casting number. Two sizes of housing openings. 1.88" and 2.01"

Not sure that info is very helpful ...

EDIT: In Canada.
