I had a lifter failure in my 2007 6.2 and found a 2012 6.2 engine complete locally. What changes do I need to do to make it work in my 2007?

Also, I would like to “bulletproof” this motor to try and eliminate any future failures or issues. I don’t need a lot of power or anything just want something reliable for my wife.

TIA

The main difference between the two is that one has AFM and the other does not. Both have VVT. You'll want the donor's computer as the L94 is FlexFuel with larger injectors compared with your L92.

To "bulletproof" the motor, you'll want to delete the AFM system and turn it off in the tune. If you do this, you could simply remove the AFM components and install your L92s cam and intake/injectors and keep the original computer and tune.

Does that make sense? To bullet proof the donor, you'll basically convert it to an L92 using some of your old parts or new ones for an L92 such as the camshaft and lifters.

I am no expert but I don't think there were any major changes, probably mostly small electrical, it may also require some computer work, I think MAF design was changed from 07 to 12 and probably a few other things but otherwise it should just bolt right in. @swathdiver likely has some information on something like this.

what vehicle is the 2012 6.2 out of? just curious bc if its out of a truck it won't have AFM, if its from an SUV then yes it does have AFM, as stated above you should delete the AFM, either way it will bolt right in, as long you use the same size injectors it will run on the same tune, but I would also recommend a tune

Thanks for all of the responses. The L94 motor is completely disassembled & pulled out of a 2012 Yukon Denali. I was hoping I could swap out the heads from the donor motor and use on my current L92 for the time being until I can rebuild a complete motor as funds allow. It sounds like it may be more complicated due to the AFM difference and electronics. I don’t have any programming scan tools Like a tech2 or anything so that’s what I’m a little apprehensive about. I haven’t done any real extensive projects on newer gas motors with all the newer electronics and stuff like that.

You can swap out the heads, they are the same. The L92 is not a FlexFuel engine so it does not have big injectors. If you put the intake and injectors and computer (or tune) from the 2012 on your L92 you'd basically have an L9H. You'll might also have to swap fuel pumps but you can confirm that through ACDelco's website with your VIN.

Mechanically the 6.2 didn't change really from '07-'14.

The only differences are in whether or not it has AFM and FlexFuel capability, but that doesn't keep you from interchanging things as needed.

The parts you may or may not have to retain or reuse depending on what you're coming from and going to is the intake and AFM hardware.

Aside from that, everything else is essentially the same. Shortblock, heads, etc.

Change your speedo cluster once you get it running. Have a buddy help you correct the mileage or note it in car fax history.

The 2009+ Denali and Escalade clusters have a few more features like instant MPG vs just the accumulated average. If you opt to get the Escalade cluster it’s clock motors roll all the needles to full and back on start up.
