The previous owner installed a K&N cold air intake on my 2003 Yukon XL with the 8.1 liter engine. I don't want to be using the K&N filters.

Option 1: Find a disposable filter that will go in place of the K&N

2. Swap out the whole K&N set-up and go back to stock.

Does anyone have any thought or input on either of these options? Anyone want to swap stock for K&N?

I have a spectre cold air kit on my truck but i also don`t like oiled filters so i bought an AEM dry cone filter. Just measure the opening on the K&N filter and get an AEM to match.

Nice Sas, that's exactly what I was gonna say. I think there are other companies that use or have dry filter options. Try Voilant too, not sure but they may have one.

Are Voilant and AEM dry filters better ONLY because they do not require oiling? I have read that the oil CAN cause problems when it gets into the inbound air.

I have also read that the K&Ns can allow particles/dust in, due to their more free air flow design. Is this "issue" the same with these dry filters or are they closer to a stock filter?

Specs wise I'm not sure, I would assume they are more tightly knit where they don't have oil to catch particles, that's the whole point of not having the oil is to not gum up sensors and parts, your right about k&n though they need the oil and actually a layer of dirt to help catch particles, I've read that somewhere, I believe it was even from them. They also don't make as much house power as others either if that matters. If you look at numbers from all the companies some make more.

Welcome, I'm at work so I don't have time to read it all but, I would have guessed the amsoil would have been the best but, the results are surprising. I like fram but I have never been happy with how much dirt is in them, blocking airflow like the test says. The air intake filters probably don't filter as well as a stock one but, I'm no expert. That's probably a technical question for the individual companies and compare to stock filters specs.
