I've been reading a lot about other swaps and this one came up but, I've yet to read about any 07+ Tahoe/Yuk or Burbs doing this swap.

Has anyone done or know anyone who has done this swap?

I guess this is not as popular for the SUVs as it is for the trucks.

Couple of members have done the swap but mostly just NBSs. A lot of people just build the crap out of their 60Es which is what I want to do.

That's what I did with my 2dr, I had a FLT built 60e w/a yank 3200 stall. Great transmission, worked flawlessly for 5 years.

My concern is the added weight of the NNBS, IIRC they weigh roughly 1000lbs more than my OBS.

Thanks

The reason I'm asking is, I found a decent deal on an 04 4l80e trans and convertor along with the 6.0 flywheel w/ spacer. That also comes with 6.0 truck harness and computer.

If I can figure out the repining process and tranny cross member dimensions this would be one of the better mods, especially adding in a nice stall. Never mind not having to worry about a tranny again, or at least for a very long time.

i think the reason that no one swaps the 4l80 into the new tricks because most have the 6l80 or they swap out the 4l80 for the 6l80.. so why would someone step backwards. its like why no one is swapping a 700R4 into a nbs or nnbs.. why.. why go backwards.. the 6l80 is a far superior trans than the 4 speed and can be built just as bulit proof..

now saying this i have about 2k inside of my all billet 4l60 but i was pressed for time and couldn't find a 80 in the time like my stock 60 blew..

now my opinion is that people go for the 6 speed 80 over the 4 speed 80 for the bennifit of fuel economy..

---------- Post added at 08:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:49 PM ----------

couple more things i may mention.. the controlers are designed for the 6 speed.. the electronics will not support the 4l80 among a few other things...

That's how much of a newb I am when it comes to my NNBS Tahoe.
I had no idea when the 6 spd transmissions were introduced. I did know PPVs did not have a 6 spd in 07.

I hear yah about your built 60, mine was up there to in my 2dr.

I'd have to say, yes that it's quite obvious why people would go with the 6l over the 4l for better fuel economy, hah.

That is why I had mentioned repining for the 4l80. It has something to do with re-flashing the computer. I'm actually still reading up on it so I don't everything, yet :).
Its actually similar with the 6l80 swap.

Pretty much, anything is an upgrade at the moment. Maybe I'll just get a GVOD instead.

If you have a4l60 model why not just get the 6l80 and 6l80 TCM and plug n play and be done with it.

Honestly, I have not done much research on that swap and know absolutely nothing about that tranny.
What I have read is how some people have issues with that swap involving the harness and tuning.
Is it really plug and play?
That is definitely the route I would like to go.

Thanks

You can swap anything if you know what you are doing. Buddy has a 2002 2500hd with a 2010 cummins + Alison 6speed+ tcase from his 4l80. Wiring harness from a 8.1L computer from a dodge ram. Main original GM computer. Sensors from GM mounted to the cummins. Long story short anything can be done. If you desire.

I can go into great detail about replacing a 4l60 with a 4l80 if you desire.
