Sounds like the ole intake gaskets to me. And not ragging on it but that looks like a regular tahoe that someone took the trim off and them added a Tahoe Sport grille to after they busted the original. The only question is the roof rack, or lack thereof. Does it have provisions for mounting? Im pretty sure a rack delete was an option as well. RPO codes in the glove compartment will help. Search for it and there is a page that decodes them.
The truck's second owner was the leader of a sportbike gang, so it was all gussied up when I got it. He even took the hubcaps off and replaced them with Escalade hubcaps. Ballin'.
The front grille emblem is "carbon fiber" and the headlights are clear. The tails are .. I dunno... eyelinered or something. Dark border around them. Usual GTS windscreens and stuff.
The rear wiper is missing it's arm, and the roofrack has been removed. The screws are still up there sitting in the holes. Time for the step ladder and some rust prevention. I look forward to putting a rooftop basket up there, with a few lightforce lights to even the odds in my deer-infested area.
I'm still focusing on things mechanical - trying to get more details on the transmission. All anyone seems to know is "He put a lot of work in it to tow a boat" and the transmission lines are replaced, braided lines where applicable, and a larger trans cooler that sits next to the factory radiator cooling. There is also a cheap oil cooler on it (With a different sized filter. These are the things that make me WIG OUT about these stupid mods that people do)
This is definitely not the "SS" that the magazines show. It's not a replica of the concept truck (Which is an easy thing to do, I suppose) but I have yet to find a vintage ad that sells these SS plates. I think this may be more of a dealer turd-polishing that was sooooo popular in the day.
I've owned several "impossible" cars that were just dealership fixin's. Like my 88 Ford Mini Boss (******, you see). It was a legit model, but it wasn't a ford model. It was some silly Penske dealer thing so they were all over the country, the Mini Boss label meant something - but Ford didn't do it so no one cared even slightly when it came time to sell it. Just a fun little thing.
I'll keep the SS badge, and continue to call it an SS . I'll follow the SS philosophy, keeping it's weight down and it's power up.
