96 2 door Tahoe won't start!!! Help asap please

Well it all started yesterday, I drove home from Jacksonville to Georgia. A trip I make everyday with no problems. By the way I have a 96 2 door Tahoe 5.7 vortec that is eating coolant but has not run hot or left me stranded! Well when I got home I ran in to change so I could go to a family gathering of me &I my brothers. Well when I got in my truck to go, it wouldn't start just turned over & sounded like it wanted to catch right at the end but wouldn't. Well after a lil waiting & letting the truck sit I finally got it started. I drove about 2 miles from my house headed to my brother's & the rpm gauge dropped to zero the truck was still running but barely when I pulled over on the side of the road the truck finally cut off & I smelt a burning smelling but nothing is burnt as far as wiring goes, no popped or burnt fuses either! What could it be need help asap this is my only ride &I I gotta be at work Monday morning! If anyone can help me out or point me in the right direction would be most greatly appreciated!!!!!

I wanted to add also that once the truck stopped running on the side of the rode, that after about 15 mins of sitting & trying to it to start, finally got it to start but it only stayed running for less than 5 mins then shut off & would never start back up! Everyone keeps saying its the fuel pump but I can hear it priming strong! Also I've had a bad valve tap that started a week ago, if that helps anyone who might know the problems I'm having narrow it down to something. Thanks again for any help

actually run a spark , fuel pressure, and compression test asa soon as you can and read the plugs as well.

Thanks that's what I'm headed to do now will update once I figure out what's going on.
