looking at the cragar soft 8s in a 15 by 8. do they fit because people are telling me that 15s wont fit because the hit lower control arm. If they do fit what offset shoul i get? putting 33 12.5 tires. ihave a 3" body lift with front crank and 2" blocks.

They will fit. I have the EXACT same wheels your looking at on 31x10.50 tires and I have a 99 4x4 and they fit like a dream. :)

I was under the impression that a 4x4 base wheel was 16" and that 15" was base only available on 2wd.

Am I wrong?
Your impression is accurate when you are referencing what comes from the factory... 2wd = 15", 4wd = 16"

Where the rubber meets the road (no pun intended) is found by measuring the rotor/caliper clearance as well as the offset/backspacing necessary to clear the LCA.

I don't recall when things changed (it was pre-Vortec for sure, might have been the square bodies - OOBS), but 2wd and 4wd both used to come with 15s from the factory.

I got 15's for the winter and fine, plus I'm lowered. I get you tire measurements either Tue or Wed.

I've got 15" old school Outlaws on my '95 4WD. I ditched the factory 16" wheels and bought a set of 4 Outlaw wheels from a buddy for only $50. This gives my rig a bit more of a custom look, and allows me to run the slightly cheaper and more common 15" tires.

In Summit I found some steel 15x8's with 4 3/4 backspacing. That should still clear the rotor and control arm, right?
