any body know if you can get a longer oil filter that will fit my tahoe? I have a 1985 cutlass salon and for years I been using chevy truck oil filter on it. it's twice the size of the factory cutlass oil filter, more oil capacity, more filter power.......always like doin it that way.
funny thing is my tahoe filter is the same size as my factory cutlass one, maybe even smaller. so anyone know a filter size number thats longer and will still have the proper thread and seal? tahoe has 5700 vortec, my cutlass is 305 chevy using chevy truck(350?) filter, maybe will the same filter do both vehicles? that would be sweet.........easier to remember. have'nt checked the two together, will do tomorrow

until then any ex or current mechanic geniuses got any pearls of wisdom???

peace

305 and 350 have the same filter ... saying you are using a truck filter on your car is like me saying I use a high performance Camaro filter on my Tahoe. They both take a #5 filter. :D

It really depends on your filter/cooler adapter, the 4x4 trucks have shorter filters for clearance ... I wouldn't go putting on a huge filter in that case.

Guessing you mean the 2 qt oil filter from the medium duty trucks and school busses? It wont work on a stock height 4wd because of the driveshaft, but will clear lifted ones just fine. Can't say for sure on the 2wd's but I don't think they'll be any clearance issues.

I had to pull the oil cooler adapter but I was tired of trying to keep the hoses and fittings from leaking anyways, plus it keeps oil from going everywhere when the filter is changed out. I just used a standard bypass oil filter adapter from Summit and a Wix 51794 filter

You can kinda see how far down it is in this pic, it's level with the bottom of the oil pan

and somewhere its not going to get oil everywhere once you undo it.. that would be nice tho, 5 min oilchange.. These trucks arnt bad, once you get into 6cyls and 4bangers, they put them everywhere..

Mindless troll/no thought post: I would build something to hold it under the battery by the radiator and wheel well.
