I thought that only 2001 and newer trucks needed the crank relearn....I thought I read that on BB's website.

"Customers that utilize the Scan Cable option will be able to perform this procedure on their own, provided that they have a laptop available to use. This is a potential savings of up to $100, depending on dealership rates. This does not apply to 98-00 Classic Body style trucks and SUVs. " -FAQs at BBP website

crap... so what scanner should I buy... I have been planning to buy one anyways so this will just bring it to the forfront of next 'toys"... I need one that reads both GM and Ford and both OBD 1 and II. Any suggestions?? (I have 3 Stangs (91, 00, 06) and the Tahoe and I work on them all)

I have a 96 2dr with the 5.7L. I got my BBTune not to long ago. I did not require a crank re-learn!

Check with BlackBear first though, they are super helpful and will answer all questions first before getting you the tune. I opted for the extra computer ($60) so I could keep my original as a "just in case"

No worries. I had the same questions back HERE.

IIRC, I picked 87 octane, firm shifts, 75% TQ reduction, O2 delete, and EGR delete. I left the other options alone, which means that they will fill in the blanks based on thier experience. My thinking was why try to guess on options because I don't know what they mean when they've done this a million times. Let them decide what to do. I have to say. I'm very happy with the results of thier experience. You will be too!
