Hey all. Well I got my donor trans this Saturday and am planning on doing the swap in the Hoe this week/weekend. Is there any tips or tricks someone can offer on what to do or what to look out for? I've NEVER done a trans swap before, the closest I've come is removing the one I'll be using here and to be honest, it wasn't a 'fair' assessment of how a removal should go. Since the donor van is going to be scrapped I took the easy way out and CUT all of the connections/exhaust instead of carefully removing them! Hey, don't judge - I was on my back under the van in a parking lot in Milwaukee at a balmy 25 degrees! Anyways, I've heard that I should soak the exhaust bolts with PB Blaster and have a heat gun ready to soften the goo in the wiring connection clip. Other than that, is there anything unique or different about a 2wd Hoe trans installation to watch out for? Thanks guys (and gals) for any help - I'm sure looking forward to putting this Hoe on the street. I also just changed the water pump, put in new delco plats, and a Mobil 1 high mileage oil change. Big3, cap & rotor, MSD wires are all in the near future as funds allow. Thanks again!:waytogo:

Hey Chris,

The hardest part usually is getting the torque converter to fully seat in all the splines and input shaft. If I were you, I would remove the old trans with the converter in place, and install the new one the same way, that way you dont have to worry about the torque converter not seating completely when the trans is about to be bolted on. Other than that, 2WD is easier than the 4x4 counterparts as you dont have to worry about a transfercase, front driveshaft, etc. Good luck!

Also, I think I read somewhere there's a 'special' way or sequence to run it thru the gears after the new fluid is in but I can't remember where I saw that or what the deal was. Anyone?
