So i have a 97 tahoe 5.7 it onky has 119,000 on it with what im hoping are some minor issues. Long story short i had limited test driveing capable so i bought it and in the way home some issues made themselves apparent. #1 i think its just the distributor wasnt timed correctly as it runs at an idle smooth as silk but isnt firing correctly when you try to drive it. Has the cam position sensor code forgot what it was. #2 i think this issue is my biggest concern but i also think it might be a culmination of a bunch of stupid stuff. I have all gears except overdrive and it shifts through all the gears just like it should without any hesitation or slipling. I have the maf code also along with #1 issue i know it needs a tune up. I bought and replaced the tps and cleaned the maf today just waiting for warmer weather to spend more time without gloves on to do the tune up. Also the previous owner brought it from nevada so its also a real solid truck however being out in nevada he removed the thermostat. Im thinking #1 issue paired with the other stupid problems are causing the truck to keep it out of overdrive. Never been a big chevy guy so whatever i know chevy specific is from surfing the forums. Anyway ive read somewhere if the truck can get over 120 it might keep it locked out of overdrive or a faulty tps will do this cause the ecm doesnt know where you have the throttle.
