Drivers side apart.

Time to put parts thru parts washer. And decide if I should replace shocks or not. I want to go to coilovers and ditch the torsion bars. I'm here, should I fab some brackets to enforce the shock tower and lower mount or should I wait til I do both axle swaps and lower it a few inches? Decisions decisions.

Tires mounted and rears put on. 3pm Tuesday and I've been up since 6pm Monday night. I think I got my rear tire on bike running true but looks like a ****** day Sunday with possibility of snow. Toys for Totts may not happen for me this year. Oh well, like the Cubs fans USED to say, maybe next year. Lol.

Time to give my blanket some ass and my pillow some head. I'm dead.

Cutting it close. It's 7 and I have to leave by 10 for work. Gives me 3 hrs to get passenger side done. Drivers done and on.

Didn't get to paint frame and control arms. I couldn't separate hub bearing from spindle without putting heat in spindle and since I'm not replacing these hub bearings I didn't want to heat. Oh well, it's winter anyway, I'll have a long summer to slap on paint. Back to work.

8:10, done. And I had an issue I knew I was gonna, I'll go into detail later when I have a little time. But now I need to look up hub nut torque, I think it's 140 but I need to make sure and then torque lugs and take it to work. Alignment 2mrw as long as I don't have to work over in morning.

Here's a little issue I ran into while pulling passenger side apart. I took nuts off ball joints and CV shaft and when I lifted top arm to separate balljoint from spindle, the spindle leaned outward and instead of CV splines sliding out of hub, it extended CV shaft. When I tried pushing spindle back up the CV didn't want to collapse. It was binding so I just removed bolts holding CV to diff housing flange and removed shaft all together. I usually leave shafts in when I do ball joints but I figured I was going to remove them anyway to clean and paint but it never happened.

Anyway, while going back together I picked up CV shaft and then remembered it was extended. Look at inner boot, you can see its apart.

So I tried to push it back together, I even dropped the flange against the floor a few times thinking it might pop back in, but didn't. I had to remove the band holding the boot on.

With clamp removed I pulled it apart to see what the issue was.

Everything looked good. It just popped out and needed some persuasion to go back together. I was able to get it to go back in with a few taps with a dead blow. Reattached clamp, I didn't have any 4" clamps to replace it, I will Sunday most likely. Clamp did pull back together nice so it should be ok but anyone who has ever had a boot rip or come loose knows how nasty it is when the grease flies so I'm replacing it. But here you can see how the boot should look when it's relaxed.
