Wife bought a new trailer and we're heading 700 miles south in June. My 99 Yukon doesn't have a tow/haul mode and I've always found the tranny shifts waaaaaaay to early. Q's.

I've noticed folks say to never flush an old tranny. NP. What kind of filter do you get to replace the old one with? Aftermarket or from the General?

What's the best way to put more snap into the shift on this thing...I think it's crazy it tries to shift gears at 1200 RPM when towing.

What's the best way to add a tranny temp guage so I can keep an eye on the timebomb sitting under this rig?

Thanks for any advice!

If you are towing leave it position 3 not overdrive. you will just ruin your tranny. OEM or aftermarket filters will work fine. The easiest way to get a temp measurement is to find a vehicle monitor that handle that and more that you will benefit from. Pricey sometimes but it think it is worth consideration. Such features include:

Vehicle Monitoring Functions:
Real Time Fuel Economy
Average Fuel Economy
Trip Fuel Economy
Load
Coolant Temperature
Fuel Pressure (gasoline vehicles)
Fuel Rail Pressure (diesel vehicles)
Manifold Absolute Pressure
Engine RPM
Speed
Timing Position
Air Intake Temperature

Mass Air Flow (grams/sec)
Throttle Position
Fuel Level
Battery Voltage
Ambient Air Temperature
Transmission Temperature
Pyrometer #1 & 2*(optional)
Boost*
IPW (Injection Pulse Width)*
Barometer*
Oil Temperature*

Which monitor would you recommend? Anyone use the ODBII ones that plug into an Iphone?
I remember seeing ads for the "Hypertech" programmer...I seem to remember it allows you to change the shift points, fuel mapping and stuff....would it monitor these systems or is it another toy in addition to the monitor?

The details above came from this product but I have not personally tried it yet. Still have to review the manual myself before trying to buy it. It does have 3 bad reviews on amazon too. the hypertech I believe is just a programmer not a real monitor.

Actually if you want to get tuned Black Bear tune is your best bet. Every who has one loves it. Not ready to do it myself yet till I get some other mods done first.

I second the BB tune - Justin can program your vehicle for different shift points, including firmer shifts...uphill with a trailer would certainly benefit.

If you're in NJ, the tune is coming up in a few weeks. Otherwise, he has a mail-order service and custom program your computer to the specs you two decide.

I personally opted for purchasing a second computer ($60) from him so I could retain my original PCM and so my vehicle was never out of commission while snail mail rolled through. If you're thinking this route, I would jump on it now b/c it can x2 weeks from order to delivery...

He's a vendor on here, just search around for 2nd opinions.

Also, from a scanner perspective, I just bought this : http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0731164056&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT

For $30, I think it's a neat toy to play with...plus I'm using it to scan prior to my BB tune so if my 02 plugs or something else needs replacing, I'll find it. They also make a bluetooth version that will synch to your phone or other device.

BTW, if you all are getting the BBTune pick the 100% Torque reduction option. I didn't and I regret it. I picked the 75% option and I've found that when it gets up to over 3500rpm it just starts to run out of steam. A quick lift of the throttle and it shifts. When it does shift, on a gravel road the ass end will go squirly on me. That means that I had run into the 'other' 25% TQ reduction. I dislike it. When I have a month to spare, I will send mine in for a re-tune.

BTW, I've read somewhere that 100% TQ reduction 'may' decrease the lifespan of your tranny, but I personally don't care! I want all my Horses working for me!

Just an friendly FYI.
