My A/C has started to act strange in that it does not come on all the time.

I have a '00 Tahoe LT 5.3L with Automatice Cliimate Control and rear heating/cooling.

Sometimes the A/C compressor light comes on automatically as it should when in the auto mode and works fine.

The problem is that when it runs for a while, and I stop the car for a bit, then restart the truck, it does not come on again for a while (about 10 minutes or so), and then kicks on.

I just had the system evacuated and recharged by my shop, and it seemed to work fine for one day, then went back to doing what I described.

I am thinking it is the control unit in the dash.

After all, it is 10 years old, and I have been replaceing some of the switchgear in the truck over the past 2 years (auto 4wd drive switch, mirrow control switch) as these have gone bad.

Any one else have any experience with this problem and any insight they can share?

Thanks,

Rich

Been waiting for any replies to my origingal post, but it seems that most folks (like me) are not really A/C knowledgeable.

But, I have found out some info.

Since the compressor does come on after a while (about 5 to 10 mins of driving) and it runs cold, am thinking that one of the inline pressure switches has gone bad.

From what I have found out, there's a "high" pressure switch, a "low" pressure switch, and a pressure switch directly on the compressor.

I have had my system charged to specified amount of refrigerant, and Oil, so that should be good, and still have the same problem

These switches can be purchased from Advance, AutoZone, etc, and run about $25 apiece.

I may start with the low switch first, and see what happens. Then move on to the others.

It may however be the A/C control unit (Auto Climate Control System with Rear Heat/A/C and Controller), but I found this unit (AC Delco one) on Rock Auto for about $130.00, which I thought was fairly reasonable.

If anyone else has any other insight into this, would appreciate hearing from you.

As I move through this though, I will come back and post my findings. Good Luck.
