my a/c worked last year but the compressor leaked I just replaced the compressor, line filter, and the condenser thing at the firewall now with the system full it dosent get cold any ideas? thanks

ok, if you have gauges, hook em up and see what you have for pressure. If its undercharged, it wont come on, maybe you forgot to plug it in? Its also could be a relay, you can jump it manually to see if it comes on.

the compressor is going on i added more 134 to it and now i think i have to much because the compressor is cycling on and off, it is still not cold the only gauge is the one with the can

Air Conditioners work best with the proper amount of freon to match the system displacement. Too little and the liquid does not reach the evaporator, too much and there is not enough room for liquid freon, to totally evaporate. Either condition causes poor performance.


After replacement of components, the system should be evacuated with a vacuum pump before new freon is installed. Then the amount specified on the label under your hood, should be added. Should be something like 1.8 pounds for a single evaporator system.

If you are charging without evacuating the system first, it may not take all the freon it needs, without running the compressor. You need to add freon on the “low” side while the compressor is running.

(Low side would be the larger of the two lines and connectors.) :)

They will cycle on/off when the system is undercharged, I agree with 95TwinTT, have someone with the right equipment to pull a vacuum on it to evacuate the system
