I have a 2002 Tahoe 4.8L V8 RWD. It is entirely stock, except for the Incinerator muffler. It has 125,*** miles on it.

Recently, I noticed that when I turn on the a/c on, it blows the outside temp air. I had a tune up done within the last 60 days. When I had it at the dealership for its tune up, I was told that the compressor was probably going out.

I was hoping for any advise or ideas on whether I should swap it out or take it in and have it done. If swapping it out, any suggestions as to which compressor/accessories to buy, would be appreciated. Thanks.

my guess is your ac clutches are going bad and have thrown the belt. mine did this when the compressor pooped out. i bought all the stuff off ebay really cheap from a seller named accoolzone IIRC. i did the work and it was a serious pain in the ass, then after about 2-3 months the new compressor took a dump. i emailed the seller and he sent me another new compressor. i swapped it out one more time and havent had anymore issues all last summer. are you pretty mechanically inclined?

Thanks ATL. I wouldn't call myself a mechanic, rather one who enjoys acting like one. I seem to do fairly well so far.

However, replacing the compressor, ac clutches, ect. looks to be a much more serious job than anything I have done so far. How long did it take you? Would you suggest replacing just the compressor and seeing how things go. Or replacing the compressor, clutches, ect.? Where should I start from?

I was looking into all this and found that http://www.jcwhitney.comJC Whitney has a good selection and price wasn't too high.

Thanks again.

i want to say it took me about 4 hours all by myself with my truck sitting on the ground. that was by no means the spped of a pro, i took my time. i even had some compressor oil drop in my eye so i took the time to go to store and get some eye drops and one of those face shield things. there is numerous videos on youtube that show u step by step directions and list out all the tools you will need, the videos will make it 10000000% easier

oh yea, also get a complete compressor kit. it will have new comprssor with clutches, probably o rings for the lines, orifice tube, and drier. when the compressor starts failing, small pieces of the compressor can end up in the lines. the orifice tube can/will catch alot of it. once i had my compressor off, i ran some ac system cleaner thru the lines to get all the contaminates out. you will see what im talking about in the videos

Thanks for the heads up ATL. I think I'm going for the whole kit. Along with replacing all the belts.
