I have a 2004 Yukon 5.3L with AWD(supposedly I'll get to that in a minute). Recently the ABS light came on. Every now and then when driving the "traction active" comes on and takes away power. There also seems to be a scraping/clunking sound that comes from the front end sometimes. It comes and goes. I've read it could be a bad ABS sensor, a dirty ABS sensor, a bad EBCM, a dirty ground for the EBCM, lots of other things. Anyone have any idea the best place to start? I did check the ground to EBCM last night. While I was under the truck I noticed that the front drive shaft is GONE. I bought this truck used a few months ago. Like a dummy I did not think to look under the vehicle to check for the drive shaft so I don't know if it has recently gone missing, or if it was taken off by a previous owner. I've read some people remove the drive shaft instead of fixing transfer case issues. What's the likelihood that the drive shaft just fell off and some how neither my wife(she's the daily driver) nor I realized it? Thanks in advance

The driveshaft didn't just fall out would know for sure something happened. If it's a true awd like a Denali where it's not 2wd 4wd or awd that's not good it's very bad to remove driveshaft I think you would have either locked the transfer case or front end relatively quick. As for random traction active and abs lights I would almost guarantee its a wheel bearing issue. I had one on my 03 that felt good only minimum play with a bar under tire however, once removed it was definitely the culprit. You can have it scanned and it will usually tell you left or right abs sensor if not both

It is AWD with an option for 4WD LO. I was guessing from some internet research that a wheel bearing was the culprit. On these trucks can you replace the bearing or is it a whole wheel hub assembly? My wife drove an 02 Venture minivan before this and I had to replace the whole hub on it. Thanks

It's the whole assembly don't go cheap they don't last. Timken is top of the line in my opinion. Also I'd you truly don't have front drives haft. They are tucked up high I would be replacing that ASAP and have driveline checked

I'll check the drive shaft again this evening. It was late, and dark when I was looking so hopefully I was looking something wrong. Thanks!

Ok I took care of the ABS/TC/Service stability. Replaced wheel hub. Now on to the front drive shaft. Does anyone know is there a difference between the front drive shaft for a 4WD vs AWD? Thinking of picking one up from a local pick your part yard, but I want to make sure i get the right one. Thanks
