So its 110 degrees today and the compressor just went out. GM Service tells me they recommend their OEM for $800 installed. HA Ha Hell no. Yes it has a lifetime warranty but no thank you. Why doesnt the first one have a lifetime warranty?

So now what? He said he recommends a new orifice tube and accumulator in case its come apart in there? Is this right?

On ebay I have found them for $160.00 free shipping and then i would still have to buy the accumulator and the tube.

Much thanks for any and all comments and advice in advance. I really need help guys. I have full custody of my 18month old son and $800 is a big deal.

if the orifice tube is trashed I would also look into replacing the condenser as well, I just fixed my ac a few days ago i have an 2003 tho, i replaced compressor, orifice tube, condenser, ac pulley(mine was broke), and the drier. I got orifice tube, compressor, and drier for like $190 on ebay and I got my condenser for $90 from rockauto. Be sure to flush all your lines out and also flush out the evaporator, I bought a quart of flush from advance auto for like $7 but you need an air compressor. Check out autoacforums.com for more help if you need it

When i took my A/C compressor off my Tahoe it was quiet and worked great. However i left the f-in thing sit on my back steps outside for like two months.I think it got rained on a few times. Now when i spin the pulley it makes a rubbing noise... Like i said tho, when i took it off it worked 100%.It may just need to be lubed or something.I did just spay inside the pulley with WD-40 and liquid wrench.

If you want it its yours...just pay for shipping.

If you want it PM me your address and i'll get it out to you ASAP.

I've never been accused of being particularly smart, but why in the hell would you take your compressor off, unless it's becoming a dedicated track vehicle?

Mine's still out, and it was nearly 110 today. And my frickin' driver's side window won't roll down! Needless to say, it was a bit warmish riding around.

Yes i got an A/C bypass pulley from autozone.I had to use some of my own bolts though. The ones in the bypass kit were way to thin.

Well boys and girls the remanned ac compressor is in there like swimwear. cold as ice too. the total after all said and done is $370 for the compressor, orifice tube, and accumulator, extraction, vacuum, and recharge, plus install. thats pretty damn good in my book considering they were gonna charge me $800 for just the compressor from GM.
