I have a question for a 2016 Suburban. Does anyone know if the OEM replacement AC condenser for the special warranty (PN 84573456)have the foil heat shield on the upper right corner still? Or would a dealer put in a different one under warranty?

The old still worked but they told me they would replace it as a preventive measure under warranty, and paperwork says so with the OEM part number. I picked it up today but it looks like the same old one with no foil shield in the corner and there’s even a rock dent on it.. (already? Really?) I wish I would have uniquely marked the old one...

Since the AC works, I’m starting to think it’s gonna be too much headache to argue this one even if I believe they didn’t replace it. Warranty expires in December for time since placed in service.. This dealership sucks in every way so far and not worth dealing with. I just wanna know if I still have the risky condenser.

The condenser you got is the same as the one they took out. AutoZone actually makes a better condenser than GM. It has a lot better welds on it.

If they did not replace the condenser, they are stealing from you and from GM when they billed GM for the warranty service.

If you don't care about continuing your relationship at this dealership, you might consider taking some pictures. Make a copy of the work order showing it to be a warranty service and to part number of the replacement part. Then send your pictures and the copy of the work order to the GM Zone Manager for warranty work.

You could tell him that you are confused. You understood that the replacement part for the bad condensers had a different appearance. If you can get a picture from someone, you could label it "Warranty Replacement Condenser" and ask if the one you have looks like the proper condenser for the warranty repair or if it should look like the enclosed picture labeled "Warranty Replacement Condenser".

You can also take it to a reputable AC shop and ask them if they can see evidence of the condenser having been replaced. It should be apparent on the connection fittings and the coolant service ports.

Thanks for the thoughts everyone. I thought the newer condensers had better welds than the original, plus the addition of the heat shield in the corner. Giving them the benefit of the doubt , maybe the foil shield part was separate and was not put on it if the condenser was actually was replaced .

When I used to have anybody work on my vehicles I always insisted to see the old parts. Fortunately I haven’t had to have anyone work on my rigs in many years except a bit of body and paint.

Depending on when it was done, the dealer has to save old part for approval to discard it. When did you notice the rock dent on it?

If it's warranty work, you won't see the old part but if it's customer pay then you can see all you want.

Yeah only the party that pays has that right. I’ve never bought a vehicle with a warranty and don’t plan on ever doing so. I’d rather buy something older and dump $20-$30k into parts to upgrade and mod it because nobody builds exactly what I want. Even when I bought a year-old Harley Davidson Street Glide for $20k and it probably had a warranty the first thing I did was strip it to the frame and start over with $30k worth of parts I wanted so I’m sure the warranty was null and void. But that’s just me. :rockit:
