I switched out the compressor and accumulator on my 02 this morning. The old compressor only had about 2 oz of oil, the accumulator had nearly 6 oz. I thought that was odd, but put it back together that way (the ac was working great when I took it apart, the compressor clutch was failing).

The issue I am having though is the new orifice doesn't fit. There were two that could have fit the truck (per the dealer) so I got both with the intention of of returning the one I didn't need. The one I took out matched one of the ones I got with the exception of the end piece- the one I took out was missing it and the mesh was torn. The new one, fully intact, won't fit.

I can't get it in far enough to get the tubing on the other side back on it. I really tried to press it in, thinking it needed some force and tore the mesh/screen on the new one. WTF? Is that why the one I took out was missing the end piece- the last guy removed it so the orifiice would fit?

I'm taking it to my buddy's shop tomorrow to get the system evacuated and recharged, but this orfice deal is a real issue. Anybody have the same problem?

My buddy had the orifice we needed. Fit without mod. The ones the factory calls for don't fit. Not sure why but no longer an issue. The correct one looked nearly identical without the top cross section that was in the way.

I just ran into that today. Broke the first one trying to get it in. What did you end up using? Any help appreciated....

When I took it to my buddy's shop, he had a big plastic trayed box of different orifices. We just found the one we needed (looks the same as the one GM says without the "X" on the top) and it fit right in. A/C is working fine and dandy.... I think you need to go to a local garage that does A/C service and ask them for one- or, if you have to take it somewhere to get the job finished (system evacuated and charged with refrigerant), just have them put the correct orifice in. They're only a couple of bucks.

Thanks. I think that is what I will try. I saw where you can buy assortments of them, but not sure yet locally what shop might have them on hand....I'll have to check around. I did not know how critical it is to have a certain one, but I guess you gotta have one that fits. :) Thanks for the reply......
