i have temperature control where you set a temp and not have to do anything else. However it is not automatic anymore. You have to manually turn fan blower up or down and max button always stays on and has to be pushed. If in auto mode, all of this should be automatic, but is not.

what year make model? could be a bad blower motor resistor, could be the main control, the resistor is more likely though.

Where is blower resister located? I have both a 2007 and 2012 tahoe

Under the dash in the passenger footwell, behind that black cover that goes above one's feet.

With two trucks in the stable, you're a good candidate for a Tech-2. If something is wrong, there are codes stored internally that will tell what's wrong and why.

blower motor resistor is under the kick panel under the passenger side glove box on both trucks, once you have the panel off you will see it near the blower motor.
but just something to note if the automatic temp is set higher than the outside ambient temperature it probably wont come on until you take it off automatic.

also what "max" button?

another thing it could be also is the environmental sensor which is above the drivers head in the headliner, it looks like a microphone or small speaker and there may be two of them one of them being a Bose mic if you have the Bose system, (the grills looks identical) but the other one will be a small squarish grey module with a fan it, if the fan stops spinning it wont read the temperature correctly, a new one runs about $20-25 online easy to replace by just pulling the headliner down from the drivers side door area.

The “max” button I mentioned is the button with a car graphic with a sideways “U” in the middle. Pic below
