Last Friday I bought 300k mile pickup. After a test drive that wasn't too bad I learned the driver door wouldn't open from the inside. I had already learned none of the windows worked. Nonplussed I slid across and got out the passenger door. The overall condition is great and the price was right. I rolled my Beemer into the bed and strapped it down with the 8' bed. Hit the road and drove nearly 300 miles home.

The cast door handle was broken where the cable connects so I wrapped a bit of safety wire on the cable so I could pull it. That worked for days while I waited for time to install the replacement part. Then it stopped working. I did discover that if I tugged on the door latch without pulling the door lock up it would jam for a while. I can't understand what's going on there but after working fine when I parked in my driveway Sunday night I can no longer open the door at all from inside or out. I'm open to suggestions.

For what it's worth this is an extended cab truck. Also open to suggestions for a proper forum for this truck.

Sadly I'll be selling my awesome Tahoe soon.

Thanks. I think I've got this beat. I managed to get the top of the door panel loose at the top and slid a pump up airbag in to expand the space. That gave me room to shove a second bag farther down with an eye toward removing the outside door handle. I got one of the bolts out and heard a click. I pulled on the cable for the inner handle and my door opened. Looking at the cable it was improperly routed and has a kink near the handle end. That kept pressure on the latch preventing it from truly unlocking.

Wow nice work. 2 air bags in one repair might be a record. But like Derek from VGG says “is it really a dumb idea if it works?” It’s funny how you’re in the middle of something tricky and think of ways to get it done?

If it is a Sierra Classic, you can check out the GMT800 Forum. That forum is owned by the same owners here.
Mine is the NNBS which matches my '09 Tahoe that's going up for sale soon. I goofed on that by swapping in a 6.2 with LS9 cam. Now it's hungry for premium fuel. Sure it'll light up traction control going down the road but who needs that?
