It's not that easy. You have to add an aux box that will connect with the factory radio like the PAC IS32 or something
I didn't know what the options were for adding USB audio or even bluetooth audio, esp since my radio does NOT have a USB input currently.

Thanks for this write up. I replaced my factory radio with a Pioneer AVH-X7800BT head unit. I didn't have a factory USB, but I was able to order the parts from amazon and install it easily.

First, I did this for my aftermarket Pioneer 8400BH head unit.

For people who have stock Navigation and have the USB in your center console, this is the same thing, using the same wire to your head unit, just in the dash instead of in your center console. SUVs get the USB in the center console, Trucks got the USB on the dash.

This will play music and video files from my iPhone, iPad, thumb drive and a regular hard drive. However, on some instances there's not enough power to start the hard drive, so you will have to power it up using the power cord to a cig lighter adapter or something else. It will also charge my iPhone as well.

Part numbers:

USB Cover Plug - 20983937
USB Receptacle (in dash) - 20944422

The only difference in the cover is it shows the USB symbol. The plain cover on your cig lighter will work. See this thread for more info as it's the thread the idea came from...

Remove radio surround

2 7mm screws to remove the cig lighter piece.

Then there are 2 clips holding the cig lighter in place. You have to open the cover to pull the cig plug out. and then 2 clips to get the cover off

Put the USB cover back in place

push the USB receptacle back in

Using an aftermarket USB male to mini USB male adapter, pug the mini USB in to the back of the new receptacle and the USB in to the back of your aftermarket radio.

Put everything back together just like you took it apart and your done...

Edit:

For those of you that want to add USB charging only, you can simply get a USB cigarette lighter adapter and tuck the main part behind the radio like this...

I know this post is old but can't you use the same idea and plug it into the back of a new app radio? As an extension of the USB port. That way you can plug you phone in and it will charge and play/ display data on you radio?

swapped out the center console cig lighter for a USB outlet that goes to the back of my radio. I'll keep an iPod plugged in that i can completely control from my radio for now. But also have the option of plugging in my iPhone for Apple Carplay.

Also a quick pick of the USB outlet up front. It's for charging only.

Question: I was thinking of using that cig lighter under center console to charge a chrome cast connected to my HU. Currently, it gets charged with one of the USB's that comes off the aftermarket HU which means it stops charging the Chromecast when HU is off/car is off. Since the charge ports in the car always charge even when car is off, I'm worried charging chromecast over night may kill battery especially doing this multiple days/weeks/months.

How do you feel about this? Bad idea? I rather leave both USB's from HU available for Android Auto/Carplay and charge through a power connection. Since I never use charge port in center console, tahts why that was my focus.

Not sure about chromecast, but I leave ipods plugged in with no issue.
