The easy answer is that since he owns his own ASE certified shop and he is my godfather, I think it is a pretty safe bet that this Yukon had been maintained meticulously. I actually grew up working in his shop. This Yukon has been his wife’s since new and has never been Offroad.

More details like this make it easier now for me to understand why you said what you said. At one time my relatives wanted me to open a shop and they were willing to help with the seed money but I always enjoyed the mechanical side of things and running the shop instead of some of the headaches that go with ownership.

As much as I enjoy working on cars, I dislike the business of cars.

Ok back to my question, any bulletproofing ideas?

Intake gaskets would be the one thing that I’d look at on the vortec 350. Not a question of if they were done, but when and what gaskets they used. For a 1998, they were probably first done just out of warranty (say 50k miles) and then again within another 50k miles or so if they used the original GM style.

They need to be the ones that have the metal backing. Felpro and others make both the cheap OEM and the better ones.

You’d want these:

Not these:

Probs putting an Exelbrock supercharger on it so it will have new gaskets.

Any other advise? I always like opinions from others. Helps me think in other ways than I might.

Bought the Yukon and should be picking it up next weekend. Think I’m going to do the 6” lift from Rough Country.
Any additional mods recommendations?
