Ok. Let me start by saying this is my 1st post but I have been reading this forum for over a year now and it is by far the best source of info I have came across!

On to my question. I am in the market for a NBS '03-06 Yukon/Tahoe after owning '96 and a '99 OBS Yukon SLT 4x4s and have found a few good candidates. They both have Bose and OnStar options, neither have RSE. One has steering wheel controls and the other doesn't. As far as the audio department I want to upgrade to a Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS head unit. I read that I will need the GMOS-014 kit to install and retain the OEM features and the ASWC-1 for the steering wheels controls. I've also read of people using the PAC OS-2C-Bose kit and I'd like to know which is preferred? Which is more reliable? Also, does the OEM HU make the chimes audible through the speakers or through a speaker up front? I see that the harnesses have a adjustable speaker built in would anyone like to comment if they are the same audible level as OEM? Thanks, I don't want to sound redundant as I have done research through this forum I just don't want to deal with headaches and returns. Any advice is appreciated.

Also I see that the Metra 70-2054 harness bypasses the Bose amp with all the necessary leads to run up to a aftermarket HU but with this instead, with an aftermarket amp for the doors, would it still be possible to retain the chimes and etc. such as with either of the two products listed in the op?

I basically want to retain the chimes, onstar, rse, bypass the Bose amp for an aftermarket one, and still power an aftermarket HU..maybe I'm asking for too much and have to sacrifice something lol

Gut it and start over? you can run whatever HU you want and bypass the Bose system and use whatever amp you want. I'm sure they have all the adapters you need to keep the onstar and steering wheel controls. I'm not much help.

I know the Bose system has it's own special speaker ohmage, and output to the amp isn't the normal voltage. Sure you can take time and work with the system or just take it all out and put all your own new equipment in place.

Most installers I know swear by the PAC stuff. They wont touch Metra or
Axxess.
