my 24s are held on with the same lugs as my ltz 20s. a friend of mine just told me thats a no-no. whats the difference in aftermarket lugs and why would it be necessary to use different lugs.

I guess there could be something to that. The OEM nuts are spec'd to the OEM wheel. A larger wheel will add more un-sprung weight to that point so I can see a need to change something like the nut, torque or both. I would check with your wheel manufacturer.

No he's wrong, since both wheels have hidden lugs, the factory ones work perfectly fine, just add about 15lbs of torque onto the factory specs to tighten them and be on the safe side since the new ones are not hubcentric.
Regardless, both wheels/studs call for a standard 60 degree conical seat lug torqued to about 100lbs, that is exactly how my aftermarket and stock lugs are, with the exception my new ones are closed end.

Be careful here. OEM torque is much higher than 100 lb ft. My manual specs 140 lb ft and that is for stock 20" aluminum wheels.

thanks for the responses. i figured they were fine. he was also talking about some kind of clips that have to be removed from the stock studs before aftermarket wheels can be put on. can anyone confirm. i guess i shouldnt worry about it since im not having any issues, i just like to be informed

It does not have to be removed, but removing it will stop any possible brakin vibrations.
And Roger, a 14mm stud (which is what we have on our SUVs) should be torqued to 95to tell you the truth, but then GM calls for 140, I just do 120lbs because 140 is just too high to me.
