Two weekends ago the compressor on my 2000 Surburban's A/C locked up. Threw the belt off.
After replacing the compressor, orifice tube, receiver/dryer, and evacuating the system, we put 2 cans of freon in it. We fired it up to continue filling it, but the compressor wouldn't run. It had about 65 PSI in the low side, so it should have run.
We tried to jump the connector for the low pressure switch and no luck. Further investigation revealed that the wires going to the low pressure switch were burned. I replaced the wires going to the plug and plugged it in--still nothing. It turned out that the low pressure switch was also bad.
I've finally got everything working OK, now. I'm just trying to figure out what caused these multiple failures. Perhaps the compressor locked up and (for some reason) the clutch current increased to a level that damaged the switch and also took out the wiring harness. No fuses were blown, so this really doesn't make sense to me.
Any thoughts?
