I installed my Airaid Jr. today after some research which led me to the dyno tests Blackbear did. Install was simple. Took 20 minutes. A brief background...I've had two C5 vettes. One was a Z06 with a dyno tune and vararam. I still have an 04 Cummins with a dyno tune, turbo, trans etc. I say all that to say this...I've spent too much money on parts over the years that result in minimal gains and didn't expect that much from this kit. I was wrong. This is probably one of the best bang for the buck upgrades I've done on a vehicle, especially a small block gasser. Throttle response is noticeably improved, eliminating at least 50% of the "dead pedal" feeling I had stock. There is a slight increase in exhaust/intake noise but nothing crazy. Drivability is great though. Very glad I chose to go this route.

That Blackbear dyno testing was what prompted my choice as well. And their HQ is only a few miles from my home. Why spend more for nothing? Simple, yet effective

Oiled filter will gum up your MAF. They historically come over oiled brand new in the package. Get the dry IMO...

Personally, I wouldn't use any of those kits.
Point any of those high flowing kits up to the sun, and look.
Those K&N kits are almost scary, but it seems people still fall for the sales pitch.

The stock system is more than enough air to run this truck, and I don't care how the numbers were manipulated. The vehicle is naturally aspirated.

What you purchased guarantees one thing, more dirt in your engine. More salt dust, more sand, more everything.

There is no trade off. Pick your poison, a little more useless air flow, or more tolerance killing dirt.

Do you have an oil analysis done when you change your oil? Just curious.

Change it regularly and skip the analysis. What are you really going to do if the analysis comes back poorly? Tear apart a running engine and make repairs? Probably not. If you're not having abnormal noises or anything just use good oil and filter and change often/regularly

I agree. My point being you can't say filter X lets in more silica etc. that the stock paper filter unless you're doing oil analysis. Unless I am missing something.

The amount of grit let through by high flow filters can act like a sand blaster to intake components, valves and anything air flow comes in contact with.

I know guys like to add mods to their new toys, and the amount of added power (which is basically nothing on a NA engine) compared to the amount of tight tolerance damage caused by intake air that isn't properly filtered simply isn't worth it.

Modern stock paper air filters aren't like to old days. In my tuned Ford diesel that dynos out to 1,185 lbs of torque, the stock filter (Donaldson) flows at such a good rate that adding an aftermarket filter gives no gain at all.
Don't confuse the sound of a CAI humming with added power and torque.

Id agree with most of that. However the Air Aid Jr is just a Modular Intake Tube that replaces the factory tube with a better flowing design. It connects to the stock air box and you can run a filter of your choosing. Its not like a metal tube intake with a big dust collecting cone filter on it :)
