i'm going to pull the trigger really soon on a set for $400 but was wondering what else is out there that might be as good and cheaper. is ceramic really necessary? i have a 2dr 96 4x4 with a 5.7 Vortec. BTW, tires are coming in about 3 months.

No Ceramic is NOT nessasary, if you don't get them ceramic they won't look good but Does that really matter?! When you run your truck it will burn off any rust on the headers if there just painted. So unless you let your truck sit there forever the headers will be fine if there not coated. Do LT if you want better WOT/HP. Do Shorties if you want Less restrictive and more torque.

I say get ceramic coating if you live in a place where they salt the roads. If you don't you will regret it. I've seen so many pairs of rusted out headers that weren't coated or anything and the salty winter roads up here in Michigan just eat away at them like crazy. Also, if im not mistaken the ceramic coating cuts down on the heat, a lot. So if you're not totally strapped for cash I say why not.

I live in SA, TX and not totally strapped for cash but I'd like to do headers, muffler and a BB tune and cutting $200 off the cost of the headers gives me the $200 for the tune. So now, the next question is....LTs or shorties? I'm not concerned about HP because it's going to be minimal anyways. My main goal is responsiveness, better efficiency/air flow and sound :D

Air flow and torque = Shorties .Period. Not sure how much louder it is though. But just think of it any way anythings better then the stock intake. Its not horrible but its very restrictive. Don't do it tell you get the BBT and CAI, just find an exhaust shop that will do all the exhaust at one time too.
