I met an old friend of mine the other day and he works at a muffler shop and said he could hook me up with a new muffler and dual tips on each side. I forgot which specific model but its a flowmaster muffler. He said he could have all that on for $325.00. I know nothing of mufflers or exhaust so I thought I'd ask to see if this was a real deal here? Thanks for reading :)

For an exhaust shop yeah that's probably a good deal. I got a buddy who does all the work on my tahoe and for his shop the installation is free if you let him cut the cat off and keep it. So it would be like a $100-150 job for a muffler and tips. Probably close to $200 if you don't get the cat cut off. He welds it all up too, no clamps.

Cool I'll probably take him up on this offer then, is this going to be retarded loud? He said it'd give me like a 15-20 hp gain too, is that true?

no true at all. dude is trying to make some money. most of your exhaust shops over the phone will tell you that if you are looking for performance stay the hell away from flowmaster. i have one man so im not downing them at all...they sound badass. As far as performance goes...you will gain literally nothing but good sound from flowmaster. if your looking for performance(magnaflow(very raspy on a 5.7), spintech, corsa). cant beat the sound of a flowmaster though

Ohh, well I'm not tooo worried about that I guess. My main concern is the sound, I dont want something crazy loud just something that has some good sound to it. An example of what I dont want: My first truck was an old 95 ram, I know :supergay: but it had dual straight pipes and they sounded horrible in my opinion. Just obnoxiously loud!

Sounds like a pretty decent price. The sound depends on which flowmaster you're getting. If it's a 40 or 44 it's gonna be kinda loud but it won't be too obnoxious. 50's aren't very loud. Cut off the cats and it'll be a little louder. 20 hp sounds kind of optimistic though.

I'll have to talk to him in the morning when I go up there again to see what series he was talkin about. He said that he could put the muffler on tomorrow, but has to order the tips. So we'll see tomorrow I guess

Well I ended up going with a Magnaflow muffler with a single tip since it was a little easier on the wallet.($170) I really like it, it's just what I was looking for. Here's some pics:
