If your shocks are stock ride height than the shock extenders are needed, but if you are using a McG...2050 than you do not need to use shock extenders but if you do it is also fine!! I dropped my 4WD yukon with a 2/3 drop kit lowered the front an additional inch with the adjustable strut and ran 3" drop coils in the rear with 2050 shocks and extenders. This application worked great for me and in total gave me a 3/4 drop which is OK for a 4WD but anything lower can cause damage to the cv axle in the front!! Hope this helps!!!
