I have a 2000 yukon xl, and lifted the drink holder where I read that is the location of the non Bose amplifier, but didn't see anything. Am I looking in the wrong area? I'm looking at replacing the stock radio which sounds like a tin can.

Appreciate the help.

Open your center console and remove the 4 phillips head screws under the rubber mat. Remove the console insert and it should be under there. That is where mine was...The wire harness is clipped under the cup holder.

Good post. I too have the same issue as my stereo sounds like it's not being amplified, plus I have zero bass. Was the amplifier located under the console? I am assuming this amp also controls the bass as well?

Yeah the stock Bose amp has a preset EQ that will tone down the bass as you crank the volume that way you don't blow speakers left and right from sending too much bass through them. I have a kenwood head unit with the pac rp5-gm11 adapting harness and it works flawlessly never had any issues from it. You guys might have blown amps from what it sounds like. It's not hard at all to bypass the factory amps any reputable audio shop should be able to do it
