How does the part above the REAR license plate (that holds the Chevy Bowtie as well as the licesnse plate bulbs) mount?

While changing these bulbs on the rig today, I noticed that this trim piece/cover piece, whatever you wanna call it piece seems somewhat loose, but I could not detect any clips or screws.

Does it screw on from the back, one will have to remove the interior panel on the hatch gate?

Thanks in advance.

That's called an appliqué and you have to take the interior panel off the gate to get to where it attaches. I'm surprised it is loose

Thanks Jacob.

Is that an easy or rather difficult task? Two bolts to hold this applique???

Thanks.

Modded would be a good resource for that kind of question. I've never taken that rear interior panel off to look at it but from I've heard from people like Modded is that there are only a couple of places that fasten the applique on but they are a bear to get to back there. if yours are already somewhat broke which they could be if the applique is loose that may make it easier. If that's the case, you might consider getting a new applique but from a GMC Yukon. It'll be plan and looks REALLY nice without that Bowtie on the back gate.

Thanks again Jacob.

Under those circumstances, double sided 3M tape may be my best friend?!?!?!

There are 3 places where it attaches if I recall correctly, one of it being behind the rear wiper motor. It is definitely a PITA to get to. The gmc applique is real nice if you do have to go the route of replacing the whole piece. Happened on my 07 after I was rear ended, body shop didn't attach it, ended up buying a new one and installing the rear view camera while I was at it.

Yes, that is also a good option if you can get reasonable access to the area to apply the tape back there. Again, I've never actually had that panel off on my Burb.....yet :D

Yep, I can get there and will do it that way with the tape.

That seems like way too much trouble for me to get to in order to do the job proper.

It attaches on the back side, but one of the nuts is blocked by the rear wiper motor and is very difficult to get to.

Mine is loose because my friend grabbed to trying to open the hatch! It broke the lower tabs and I have not brought myself to buy a new one yet. That was 2 years ago.
