When I first started using semi-metallic pads on our autocross cars, I'd take a hacksaw and cut a shallow slot radially through the middle of each pad. That significantly reduced the amount of squeal I got out of them. Newer pads are a different compound, and have not seen the need to do that again. It would be something I'd do if I had any pad squeal, though.
