Hey everyone have had on going issues with my truck and wanted to share my experience and see if anyone had advice. I have a 2009 Suburban that I bought used with @ 23000 miles.. Thanks to some of the info on this forum I have it looking just like I want. Unfortunately it hasn't been running like I would like. All my issues have been engine related and at this point GM will not do anything further.
Here's whats happened so far.
29000 miles I started noticing a good deal of blue smoke from the tailpipe. The dealership found oil in the intake manifold and replaced the valve cover with the updated design.
36000 miles, truck shuts down on way home after check engine light, Stabilitrack and Traction control errors appear. After 15 minutes on roadside trucks starts back up in limp home mode. Dealership replaces throttle position sensor.
38000 miles, truck once again goes into limp home with check engine light. Check oil and find NO visible oil on dipstick. Back to dealership, again. All 8 pistons and rings replaced. GM customer service contacted with request for new engine or warranty extension. GM agrees to neither and says this repair will fix any issue. I foolishly agree and allow repair.
Approx 40000 miles trucks starts running rough. Check plugs and find them fouled. Maybe dealership didn't change them with pistons so I just change them.
41300 truck once again goes into safe mode with all the lights on again. This time I was 30 minutes from home in severe thunderstorms with my 4 kids and wife. Great feeling trying to drive on the highway in those conditions.
Get home and once again find most oil gone from dipstick (maybe 1/4 inch left on it). Mind you when I changed the plugs the oil was fine. Dealership checks truck and says oil leaked from engine rear main seal. I search driveway and find a couple of drops, nothing that would cause that much of a loss. I contact GM customer service and BBB. GM says to let them review case and come up with solution. I want either a new engine or buyback. Best GM has to offer was $2000 customer certificate towards purchase of new GM truck (yeah right) or extended warranty.
At this point I've had it with the run around from them and will be following the arbitration process. Over the years I've owned many GM products including several Camaros (still have an SS), a Grand National, blazers and even a POS Chevy Citation when I was a kid. Decided to give GM another chance with the Suburban after having had a Toyota Sequoia. I know my case isn't common and I'm sure the majority of these trucks are fine. I am just very disappointed in the reliability of my truck and most of all in GM's response.

Make them give you a extended bumper to bumper warrantee and start an oil consumption log with the dealer. Every time the truck spends oil you have to take it to the dealer to log the data and refill. This is the only way they will warrantee a new engine if yours fails. It's annoying but important.

Saw one in traffic yesterday here in Warren near the GM Tech Center with a trail of smoke following it. Sounds like GM knows about this and is in denial.

Quite honestly you should have dumped it when the 8 pistons went.

Sorry to hear of all this though. :(

I actually was really thinking of dumping it after the engine rebuild. Then I thought about the next guy that would be stuck unknownly with this lemon some where down the line.
So I'm going to try my best to make GM responsible for their product by either replacing the engine or buying it back.

Good on you for thinking about others before yourself. Most people wouldn't tolerate the headache. I know I probably wouldn't.

Hopefully they just throw a new motor in it for you and call it a day.
