Due to warped rotors(34k miles) I am Looking to replace my front pads and rotors on my 07 tahoe. I found some info when searching but not much.

Is there a big difference in performance and quality when comparing a $50 pad to a $95 set? The truck stops horribly now with the rotors being glazed and warped, so anything will be an improvement, but it is worth it to spend the extra $$ on a premium pad for this vehicle?

I am going with the Centric premium rotors and one of these pads:

-Hawk Heavy Duty or HPS $95
-Centric Posi quiet $55
-Akebono Ultra Premium $90
-Local auto parts store $50

Thoughts?

I have used the centric and Akebono pads with great results. I however recomend Akebono pad to everyone I have installed many brands of pads but nothing beats the Akebono. Your price seems high though I think I paid less than $60.00 for mine (2007 Tahoe). but I get wholesale price. Try looking at www.tirerack.com

after discount code, it will be more in the $75 range, but this is for their premium pad. Are you talking about the "Ultra Premium" pad? The list price is $100+. I think I'll go with this combo. The Hawks might be too aggressive and dusty for my liking.

I just got done doing brakes all the way around on Friday. There is a huge difference from the BS OEM rotors. I HIGHLY recommend looking at the EBC rotors and pads. I did a ton of research and talked to a lot of shops and the consensus I got was EBC all the way.

Another reason to love this forum!
I've been thinking about an upgrade that was better than factory, yet still light on the ole' wallet. What exactly is the rim size rec for the EBC pads/rotors? I have 24's and a small upgrade would be nice
Of course I have priorities though and I think my turn for the BB tune is coming quick! ;)
I'l be coming back here though to reference this post when I change them.

Thanks. Which EBC pads did you go with...red, yellow, green? I am considering those pads as well.

34K miles and already wrapped rotors? Do you tow a lot? Lol I just recently replaced my pads @ 78K and rotors are good.

from SSBC:
Replacement rotors for the A126-47 kit would only be available from one of our distributors or direct from SSBC; they are not available at a local parts store.
The 14 inch rotors in that kit are $119.00 each.

from Baer:
The replacement rotors for 2301049 are $272.50ea.

that is just plain foolishness, to pay $600 for a big brake kit, and to pay $550 for new rotors every few years. that is my definition of a "financial black hole"

and of course, if you keep your vehicles a LONG time, and Baer or SSBC goes out of business, you have to junk your big brakes and go back to OEM.

after calling Vato-Zone, cheap rotors are $49, good rotors are $99 each,

i am gonna go look at Power Slot rotors again.

Power Slot Slotted Rotors $112.95 each

Partsgeek website is a pile of steaming pooh.
the ONLY way to find the right part number is to go to GOOGLE, and type in the PN, and partsgeek.com,
and google will find it on NEXTAG and pop a link to it.
and on partsgeek.com, you have to look at the very END of the HTML addee to the power slot part number.

I have Centric ceramic pads on my truck right now. They generate a ton of dust. If you don't want your wheels looking like crap all the time I'd stay away from these. I've seen nothing but good things from the Wagner Thermoquiets. Top quality OEM replacement pads, and made in America by Federal Mogul. If you do a lot of towing I recommend spending a little extra and getting the Wagner Thermoquiet Severe Duty pads. They only have them available for the front right now. Problem I have with the Akebono pads, from what I've seen, is they do tend to wear out a little faster and cost a lot for a standard ceramic pad.
