I know this has been beaten badly but I am wondering what everyone else is seeing for their actual MPG?
I have a 2003 LT with the 5.3 motor, bone stock except for a KN air filter. I drive almost 100% in town and the display has been showing 10 to 11 mpg, my hand calcs indicating slightly less than that I regularly see people claiming 14 mpg, is that what I should be expecting? I think I drive pretty conservatively, I don't race or step on it if I can avoid it.
The truck has 80k, I bought it used with 50k and had a complete tune-up at the time (belts, hoses, plugs, wires, all fluids and filters).
Things I have recently done/checked:
oil changes per the idiot light
tires are new, inflated to 35 psi all around (checked when cold)
cleaned the KN filter
cleaned MAF
cleaned throttle body
just switched to Chevron fuel (87 octane) from the grocery store brand (also 87 octane)
added some Lucas product to the fuel last 2 fill-ups
added half a can of seafoam to the crank case last night
I also disconnected the battery for a couple hours to let everything "reset"
So far, I haven't seen anything make a difference. Is there anything obvious I am missing that I ought to try? I compared notes with a co-worker with a 2004 AWD version, her truck claims 14 mpg but she admitted she hadn't reset the reading since buying it new 7 year ago LOL.
I am not expecting 16+ mpg but even 12 mpg is going to be a ~20% increase and sounds in-line with what other people are getting. I am nearing single digits.
I would love to get a Blackbear tune but I just don't have the $300 to spend right now.
Any other thoughts or suggestions you all might have would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks all, loving the forum.
