Anti Theft System '03 Tahoe LT?

I had my '03 Tahoe LT almost stolen but they didnt get it. I know it has an alarm system, but does it go beyond just an alarm? When I came out from shopping the steering column was trashed, no alarm sounding and the truck was still there, but no power to the dash. I tried the key but the lock was too screwed up to turn it on. The insurance company had it towed to the Chevy dealer for repairs so I didnt really look it over as in under the hood, etc before it was towed. I'm just wondering if it has an anti-theft system that disabled the power??

There are 3 types of immobilizers: Passlock, Passkey and Vats,
1. Key and lock cylinder (with Chip or Passlock Sensor)
2. Theft Deterrent or Body Control Module (TDM or BCM)
3. Wiring that connects #1 and #2
If only ONE part of that system goes down, the car will either not start or it will start but die in a matter of seconds.
