Looking for any tips on removing the 5.3 from my 2000 Tahoe it has a rod knock and I'm still not sure if I'm going to rebuild it or get one that's already built. However before doing either I need to get this engine out so does anyone have any tips? I've owned my fair share of Chevy/GMC trucks but they were all the older 1980s trucks so I'm new to the new body style. I've heard of people swapping in the 6.0 as well any good write ups on that if I decided to go that route? And I assume I would need the ecm out of the 6.0? Any help/ tips/advise is appreciated. Looking to get my Tahoe back on the road asap.

Alright ill pick one up I figured these engines were pretty simple to do if you were to do it yourself. Just looking to see if anyone had any tips though. The bell housing bolts kind of look like a pain to get too. I've took the hood off of it today and started looking around at what all is gonna be involved in it.

Are you sure it's rod knock and not the infamous piston slap that GM considers normal?

It's for sure rod knock at first I thought it was piston slap but it's gotten alot worse and the engine sounds horrible. It has 294000 miles on it so I guess that engine had a good run

A 2005 5.3 will work in my Tahoe correct? Aren't the only differences between them is the intakes and throttle bodies need to be changed out?

yes anyone that has any insight to the easiest way of removing the engine from a yukon / tahoe would be very beneficial. I want to pull my engine on my 01 Yukon and would like any tips...like would i need to pull the core support or not because that's a tall fence to lift a motor over with a cherry picker.
