Anybody else think the GM Nav is sub par?

The dots are just marking your path should you run off course and get lost.

To turn off the dots, press the menu button then select the nav tab. Look at the buttom of the screen and turn off the off-road mode. This will make the dots disappear, they are useful when you are on a trail or terrain that has not been mapped. It shows you the path you previously took.

Thanks! I'll give that a try...those dots are annoying for city roads.

I continue my daily battle with the GM Nav on my trip. Unfortunately I got stuck in afternoon traffic in Calgary (leaving Banff, heading for Yellowstone).

The GM Nav was beeping late and early. I have learned to watch the little vertical bar and ignore the beeps. But, there was construction and the GM nav got completely turned around and was taking me in circles.

So I ended up firing up my Garmin and it got me out of there and back on the road.

For those of you who have never used something else, here's an example off the difference between the two...I had both of them programmed.

Garmin: "in one quarter mile, take the deerford off ramp and then bear left to highway 2 south."

GM Nav: "in one quarter mile, turn right and then turn left."

What?

I have also learned that you have to tell the OnStar people to download directions to the Nav - not turn by turn. One guy did that last night to me and there was some kind of battle royal going on between the two systems. Sounded like some kind of chick fight...ooops I didn't say that.

Still love my new car. Ride is fantastic.

Also...don't remember if I mentioned this before. If you take a new car into Canada and don't have the plates yet....take a copy of the bill of sale with you. They gave me endless grief and ended up searching my car. And I did have the bill of sale. They are worried you are trying to bring a car into the country and evade their taxes.

I don't like how in the new models you have to have OnStar download those directions. I like mine because it bases everything off the DVD, which it begins reading the moment you unlock the truck or open the door.

Not sure what you mean but you don't have to have OnStar download anything. You can ask them to download a route to a city, or directions to a hotel, but you can enter all the stuff yourself.

I think the Combo of Onstar and the Nav (even if it sucks) is a fantastic feature. This afternoon, I called OnStar, they found the hotel, called reservations, they gave the guy my name, etc. All I had to do was give the hotel my cc info. Then Onstar downloaded directions to the hotel. Then drove right to it.

Oh no wait, the GM Nav was off by a block. Had to drive around and find it. But I still love it.

The young clerk at the hotel was asking me about the Denali. He was impressed by the rear hatch close button. We got to talking about my favorite gripe...the Nav...He says, and I quote..."Oh yeah, happens all the time, the Yukon and Tahoe Nav thinks we're over there somewhere."

You can't make this up! :Big Laugh::Big Laugh:
