I have plans on adding a DVD unit for kids and it will include hdmi inputs for other devices, but then I was thinking why not just add a slim large flip down monitor and skip the dvd piece. I could plug in all other media devices and if desired could always mount a bluray player under seat for dvd playing purposes.

I already have the rosen dvd player but I'm considering doing just a basic monitor to keep a cleaner low profile look. THoughts?

Yeah, I've considered that one as well...just not sure of the quality. I suppose I could order it and inspect before installing. i'm considering this one, (EL10 by AXT electronics) but only seem to find it through an aftermarket shop and it's pricey ($600+) as it's from a Toyota supplier. It has a dvd player as well as input options. IT has a nice clean oem look.

I know dvds are used less and less but I like the ability to quickly throw one in if desired. I plan to connect ipad/phone/ chromecast and other external devices. I don't know if I'd regret going with only a monitor where an outside input is always needed.

If I were just going to install a screen only, I'd just get a cheap computer or ipad or something.
Yeah, already have a couple iPads but for some reason I like the idea of a fixed screen for playing outside sources and this is where the iPads are limited, I believe. Either need to stream or have it converted to be played and stored on iPad.

Well in all my parts catalog, I can't seem to find any screen that can do Bluetooth streaming so you'd have to be wired to some extent

if there is a will there is a way.
couple options to consider are. miracast enabled screens or retro fitting the car with an airplay device. ie appletv or chromecast. very doable.just havent looked too detailed into it.
