Anyone know what this is? AWD or 4WD Picture....

I found another Yukon to buy but didn't want AWD. Is this AWD? I have searched the internet and found these options for 2003:

1) AutoTrac(R) Selectable 4WD System Includes 4WD-High, 4WD-Low and Auto-4WD Mode Which Provides 100 Percent Of The Power To Rear Wheels Until Wheel Slippage Is Detected and Torque Is Transferred To Front Wheels

2) AutoTrac(R) 2-Speed Transfer Case With Push Button Controls

I though that the AWD couldn't be put into 4lo? I was looking for the selectable 2hi/4hi/4lo. But haven't seen these particular buttons in any of the Yukons I have looked at. Here is a pic. Nice clean Yukon, one owner, 101k, clean carfax. Think I can buy it for mid to low 9's.

Thanks, Steve

Auto 4WD, is when the computer will engage 4WD when it detects wheel slip.

So that is definitely Auto 4wd? I thought it might be. So I assume it is either in the middle button, or bottom button. I am just not sure how this differential works. The top button is traction control right? Any benefits or downfalls from have auto 4wd?

Thanks, Steve

I wouldn't say definitely....

Can the guy take a pic of his user manual where it explains the buttons? Is there another button on top of those? I found a pic of mine from an 04 Z71 Tahoe (not AWD):

JennaBear, your pic is what I was familiar with and looking for. I looked at an '05 Yukon that was AWD and don't remember it having those other buttons. Maybe just the traction control. I didn't think the AWD transfer could be put into 4lo.

I can see if he has the owners manual, it is at a dealer.

Thanks for the input.

AWD provides power to 40% front and 60% rear all the time. No way to change that. The car you're looking at is 4x4.

Yeah sorry about that. I think I meant Auto 4wd not awd. I think the Denali's are AWD right, maybe that's why awd keeps popping into my head.

So is this all time auto 4wd. I don't know what the neutral light above the middle button would be for. And I assume from the buttons, it cannot be selected to 2wd at all? If it is indeed all time auto 4wd, are there any disadvantages to that?

If it has three buttons, it would be "full time 4WD'
Which is a sister to AWD
Has no 2WD like the others with 'Auto'

They call it FT 4WD instead of AWD, because it has a selectable low range

and yes, you can convert to 2WD

No disadvantages.

Yes, Denalis and Escalades are AWD.

Thanks for the responses guys. Just so I am clear, does that mean it has the 60%-40% split between rear and front like Kman stated as AWD has? Or is it more like the AUTO 4WD, where the front engages only when slipping occurs, but you just can't physically ever put it in 2wd only? Wouldn't this make fuel mileage suffer significantly? Sorry for dumb questions. I am trying to wrap my brain around this before I purchase this vehicle.

Also GM-MAN, how hard would it be to switch to the other setup? Would it just be electrical, or are the diffs actually different?

***Edit*** oh well there. I just started reading your thread on the conversion GM-MAN! Sounds pretty involved. Not something I think I want to tackle.

So I guess now, does anyone have any complaints on this particular trans setup?
