I just purchased a canoe and will be picking it up this afternoon. I have foam gunwale blocks and plan on using the existing factory roof rack to adhere the canoe to the Yukon. Unfortunately our roof racks do not have any spacing between them and the car on the sides ...... I would rather not have to wrap through the car. Anyone do this and can advise? Are the little holes at the end of the crossbard strong enough to use?

SW CT,
Do you have the crossbars on your roofrack? either way just pass the strap thru the rack between the roof and rack then wrap it back to itself.

I used ratchet type straps with the hooks through the holes at the cross-bars to tranport a two-person kayak. No problems.
