I have stock 17" wheels on my 04 tahoe which currently have the 265/70/r17 tires on them. I was looking to put something like a 15" rim on w/ an off road tire, possibly for good...but mainly as a fall/winter tire when i do some off roading and encounter snow and ice.
has anyone ever had a set of 15's on? what do i look for in backspace and such? I think the rear brake caliper bracket needs to be shaved like an 1/8" in order to clear them. I tried a set of 15x10" rims that were on a buddies 97 chevy they were American racing rims i believe. It bolted right up in front no problems, his tires were just too tall and wide to clear my bumper/inner fenderwell. SO i was looking at something like a 15x8, but i need the specs in order to make sure it will clear my calipers, i assume that backspacing is the measurement i am looking for or is it something else?
any help would be appreciated...and if you wondering why the rim change and not just a tire change..it is because a 31x10.5x15 is a lot cheaper than buying a 265/70/r17..and because there are more off road style tires available in a 15.
